가상의 인물 B가 서서울 지역에서 나고 자라며 경험했던 이야기를 파라픽션(진짜 같은 가짜)의 형식으로 풀어간다. 

처음 서울 땅에 발을 디딘 순간부터 ​​가상인물 B는, 서서울 여러 지역에 거주하며 그 역사와 함께해 왔다. B는 지금의 안정적인 삶과 터전을 마련하기까지 인생의 목표와 방향을 놓치지 않기 위해 산에 올랐다. 지금도 B는 서쪽 하늘의 별을 바라보기 위해 산에 오른다. 어둠의 틈, 별빛의 그림자 속에서 어린 소년이었던 자신, 청년이었던 자신 그리고 아버지가 된 자신을 찾아 헤맨다. B의 기억을 따라가다 보면 서서울의 시간을 경유하며 결국 우리 스스로의 이야기와 마주하게 된다. B의 서사는, 어쩌면 당신과 나의 이야기일지도 모른다.

From the moment B first set foot on the land of Seoul, he has lived across various parts of Seoseoul, moving alongside its history. In order not to lose sight of his life’s aims and

direction while building the stable life and home he has today, B climbed the mountains.

Even now, he still ascends the hills to gaze at the stars in the western sky. In the fissures of darkness, within the shadows cast by starlight, he searches for himself—as a young boy, as

a youth, and as a father. Following the traces of B’s memory, we pass through the layers of time in Seoseoul and, in the end, come face to face with our own stories. B’s narrative may, after all, be the story of you and me.

달, 인어, 바다
The Moon, Mermaid, and Sea 2023

'달, 인어, 바다'는 달이라는 미디어에 인간이 부여해 온 다양한 의미를 고전에서 채집하고, 최근 가열되고 있는 달 탐사 산업과 인간의 미지에 대한 욕망을 안데르센 동화 ‘인어공주’의 시점으로 은유한다. 본 영상은 바다와 육지의 공간을 오고 가며 자연의 숭고, 아름다움, 지구의 순환에 대한 감각을 열고 달을 들여다본다. SF적인 시선에서 시작된 이야기는 우주를 향한 인간의 도전, 실패, 경외심 그리고 바다, 땅, 숲에 관한 오랜 상상력을 융합시켜 다양한 시공간이 펼쳐진다.

"The Moon, Mermaid and Sea" gathers the various meanings that humans have attributed to the moon as a medium from classical works. It metaphorizes the increasingly heated lunar exploration industry and humanity’s desire for the unknown through the perspective of Andersen’s fairy tale The Little Mermaid. This video moves between the spaces of the sea and the land, evoking a sense of nature’s sublimity, beauty, and the cycles of the Earth while gazing at the moon. The story, which begins with an SF perspective, unfolds across diverse times and spaces, intertwining humanity’s challenges, failures, and awe toward space with the long-standing imagination of the sea, land, and forests.

The Rubbing/Sound of Flesh 2021

이 영상은 신석기 시대의 빗살무늬를 자연의 중요한 신호로 해석한다. 인간과 자연을 매개하는 가장 원시적 형태의 소통법, 몸 밖의 자연의 기운과 서로 교감한 동의보감의 오장육부 건강법, 신형장부도의 하늘과 인간의 비유적 연결 등의 단서로 현재를 재고한다. 지금도 미지의 세계를 헤매고 있는 화성탐사 로봇이 전송해 오는 신호에서 과거, 현재, 미래를 넘나드는 상상의 접촉을 이뤄낸다.

This video interprets the comb-patterned pottery of the Neolithic era as an essential signal of nature. It reexamines the present through the most primitive form of communication that mediates between humans and nature—the Donguibogam’s principles of internal organ health, which harmonize the body's energy with the external forces of nature, and the Shin-hyeong Jangbu-do’s metaphorical connection between the heavens and humankind. In the signals transmitted by Mars exploration robots, still wandering through the unknown, the video creates an imaginative contact that transcends past, present, and future.

눈의 소리
Sound of Eyes  2019

이 작업은 ‘영으로 세상을 보는 맹인 역학인들이 도대체 무엇으로 영을 볼 수 있을까’ 라는 다소 엉뚱한 질문에서 시작되었다. 앞 못보는 그들은 영을 매개로 우리가 사물을 지각하고 이해하는 방식을 넘어선 상상적 기능과 지식의 수단으로 감각해낸다. 맹인 역학인들이 구축한 세계는 이성과 영성,주체와 타자의 중간계에 머무는 곳이며, 반이성주의와 반과학주의의 영역에 위치한다. 그들은 ‘봄’이라는 물리적 행동에서 배제된 내면의 눈으로 우주 전체를 흔들 것처럼 북을 치고 경쇠를 흔들며, 타인의 삶에 대한 연민으로 가득찬 따듯한 말 한마디를 위해 산통을 흔들어 주역을 풀어낸다. 현대사회 속 커져가는 좌절감과 불안감속에서 우리는 우리 몸이 기억하는 습의 현시를 통해 과거와 소통하고 불가항력적인 믿음에 의지하며 현재를 살아가고 있는지도 모른다. 이것이 미래를 이해(선시각화,볼 수)할 수 있는 열쇠라면 기꺼이 동의도 한다.

This work began with an unconventional question: “How do blind fortune tellers perceive the spirit world?” Deprived of physical sight, they sense the spirit as a medium, transcending conventional ways of perceiving and understanding the world, engaging instead in an imaginative and intuitive form of knowledge. The world they construct exists in an intermediate realm between reason and spirituality, between self and other—positioned within the domains of anti-rationalism and anti-scientism.

Excluded from the physical act of seeing, they strike drums and shake bells as if to stir the entire universe, interpreting the I Ching by rattling divination sticks—all for the sake of offering a single, compassionate word to another. In an era marked by growing frustration and anxiety, we may find ourselves communicating with the past through embodied rituals, relying on an inevitable faith to navigate the present. If this holds the key to envisioning (or pre-seeing) the future, then perhaps we are willing to accept it.

나무제례
Ritual Ceremony at the Tree 2015

이 작업은 여전히 우리 주위에 잔존해 있는 도시 속의 나무들이 우리에게 주는 메시지는 무엇이며, 나무와 관련된 전통문화가 어떻게 현재에 의미가 부여되고 그 역할을 이어가고 있는지 가리봉 측백나무 축제를 통해 알아보고자 한다. 전통적인 나무제례 의식과 축제의 혼성, 끊긴 시간 이어붙이기, 지역에 유입된 이민자들 융합하기 등 지역에 여전히 남아있는 나무를 둘러싸고 벌어지는 미신에 대한 이야기가 다큐 형식의 영상으로 보인다. 같은 시간에 존재하면서도 서로 다른 속도를 가진 이야기들의 병치를 통해 동시대의 이질적인 감각에 대해 사유하게 된다.

This work explores the messages conveyed by the trees that still remain in our urban landscapes and examines how tree-related traditions continue to hold meaning and evolve in the present, using the Garibong Juniper Festival as a lens. The documentary-style video captures the fusion of traditional tree rituals and festivals, the reweaving of fragmented time, and the integration of immigrant communities—unfolding around the myths and superstitions that persist in relation to these trees. By juxtaposing narratives that exist in the same moment yet move at different speeds, the work invites contemplation on the dissonant sensibilities of contemporary times.

Apartment Tour 2006

아파트 관광은 작가 본인이 살고 있는 아파트 주위를 돌면서, 하나씩 채집된 이미지에 글을 붙여 나가면서 시작된 프로젝트이다. 주거공간인 아파트를 새로운 시각으로 보임으로서, 주민 또는 관객에게 일상에 대한 환기와 새로운 시각을 보이고, 관광의 형식을 빌린 예술을 통해 소문과 소문이 만들어내는 이미지의 힘이 실제 강력하게 구현되는 관광 상품을 풍자하고자 한다.

Apartment Tour is a project that began by circling around the apartment where the artist resides, collecting images one by one and adding text to each. By viewing the residential space of an apartment from a new perspective, the project aims to offer residents or viewers a fresh outlook on everyday life. Through art that borrows the format of tourism, it satirizes the powerful force of the images created by rumors and the tourism products driven by those rumors, highlighting how such images are actively constructed in real life.

인공 자연
Artificial nature 2024

이 영상은 두루마리 그림처럼 펼쳐지는 인공적 풍경을 배경으로, 다채로운 동물들의 모습을 원테이크로 기록한 영상 작업이다.

화면 속 자연은 실제 자연의 풍경이라기보다 인간이 상상하고 재현한 자연의 모습에 가깝다. 동물들은 정교하게 구성된 풍경 안에 배치되어 있으며, 관객은 마치 거대한 파노라마 속을 이동하듯 펼쳐지는 장면을 따라가게 된다.

작품은 인간이 자연을 바라보는 방식에 주목한다. 오늘날 자연은 더 이상 순수한 상태로 존재하기보다 이미지와 데이터, 전시와 관광, 미디어를 통해 끊임없이 재구성된다. 인간은 자연을 보호하고 보존하려 하지만, 동시에 자신이 보고 싶어 하는 모습으로 자연을 설계하고 연출한다. <Artificial Nature>은 무엇이 자연적이고 무엇이 인공적인가라는 질문을 던지며, 인간이 만들어낸 새로운 자연의 풍경을 바라보게 한다.

Artificial Nature is a single-channel video work that records a variety of animals against an artificial landscape unfolding like a scroll painting in a continuous one-take shot.

The nature depicted on screen is less a representation of the natural world than a reconstruction shaped by human imagination and desire. Positioned within a carefully composed environment, the animals appear within a meticulously constructed landscape, inviting viewers to follow the unfolding scene as if moving through a vast panorama.

The work examines the ways in which humans perceive nature. Today, nature no longer exists as a purely untouched entity; rather, it is continuously reconstructed through images, data, exhibitions, tourism, and media. While humans seek to preserve and protect nature, they simultaneously design and stage it according to their own expectations and desires. Artificial Nature raises questions about what is natural and what is artificial, inviting viewers to contemplate the new landscapes of nature created by human intervention.

지독지정 舐犢之情
Maternal love, 2022

이 영상은 ’어미소가 송아지를 핥는 마음‘이라는 뜻으로, 자식을 지극히 사랑하는 어버이의 심정을 이르는 말이다. 모성이 타인을 위해 어쩔 수 없이 희생하는 것이 아니라 태초적인 감정임을, 내가 세상에 나오게 한 작은 생명체에게 기꺼이 ’먹이를 주는‘ 일상임을 이야기 한다. 바람이 불고 구름이 모여 비가 내리는 자연의 순환적인 모습과 함께 모성애의 역사적, 과학적 학습의 이해를 넘어선 감각적이고 원초적인 범위로 재설정된 반복되는 일상을 보여준다.

This video embodies the sentiment of "a mother cow licking her calf," a phrase that expresses the deep love and devotion of a parent toward their child. It conveys that motherhood is not an inevitable sacrifice for others but rather a primal emotion—an instinctive act of nourishing the small life one has brought into the world. Alongside the cyclical movements of nature—winds blowing, clouds gathering, and rain falling—the video redefines the repetitive daily acts of motherhood beyond historical and scientific understanding, into a more sensory and primordial realm.

백호소서白狐素書
The white fox's Spellbook 2021

백호소서는 군사정권기 최고 권력자의 비밀스러운 공간의 발견에서 시작하여, 한국 근현대사의 사건을 역추적해 나가는 탐사 과정을 담은 영상이다. 영상 속 한 인물이 사라진 여우를 찾아 나서며 과거의 시간들과 조우한다. 경제발전이라는 시대의 명분 앞에 가려진 개인의 자유와 이상은 희망을 담은 여우구슬로 빚어지고, 숲의 정령으로 화한 여우의 시선은 거대한 시간의 터널 내부로 우리를 잡아당긴다.

<백호소서>는 검은 아스팔트 아래 묻혀 버렸던 역사 속 비가시적 존재들을 찾아가는 여정을 통해, 현대 사회의 개인, 집단, 국가 사이에 병존하는 해묵은 갈등과 균열에 대한 구조적 상황을 우화적으로 드러낸다.

'The white fox's magicbook' is a video that begins with the discovery of a secret space belonging to the highest authority during the military regime, unraveling a journey that retraces key events in Korea’s modern and contemporary history. As a character in the film searches for a vanished fox, they encounter moments from the past. The ideals and personal freedoms obscured by the grand narrative of economic development take shape as a fox bead filled with hope, while the fox—transformed into a spirit of the forest—draws us into the depths of a vast tunnel of time.

Through a journey to uncover the invisible figures buried beneath the black asphalt of history, 'The white fox's magicbook' allegorically reveals the structural conflicts and fractures that persist between individuals, communities, and the state in contemporary society.

놀이터 나무
Playground Tree  2020

도시환경정비로 없어진 오래된 놀이터 나무들은 가상공간에서 사람들과 접속을 시도한다. 가상현실로 구현되는 이 놀이터와 나무들은 증강현실을 통해 과거, 현재, 미래의 시간들을 자유롭게 가로 지르며 공간의 이야기와 함께 유영하게 된다.

The old playground trees, erased by urban redevelopment, attempt to reconnect with people in a virtual space. Recreated in virtual reality, this playground and its trees drift through past, present, and future, seamlessly crossing temporal boundaries through augmented reality, weaving together the stories embedded within the space.

철의 남자
Iron Man 2014

철의 남자는 경제발전 이라는 하나의 목표 아래 초인적인 힘을 발휘했던 세대에 대한 이해와 존경, 그리고 그들의 시간에 대한 이야기다. 문래동 철공소 거리를 걸으며 자석볼을 이리저리 굴리고, 거리에 남겨진 철 조각들은 철의 남자(아이언맨)가 된다. 이는 국가경제개발계획의 대표적 산업단지인 문래동에서 급속한 현대화를 이끌었던 윗 세대에 대한 초상 작업이자, 시대변화의 흐름 속에서 오늘도 힘을 내는 우리 시대 부모님에 대한 오마쥬로, 그들의 반짝반짝했던 과거를 회상한다.

The Iron Man is a reflection and tribute to the generation that demonstrated superhuman strength under the singular goal of economic development, and a narrative about their time. Walking through the streets of Mullae-dong, where ironworks are located, the artist rolls magnetic balls and transforms iron scraps left on the streets into representations of the Iron Man. This work serves as a portrait of the older generation who drove rapid modernization in Mullae-dong, a key industrial district in the national economic development plan. It is also a homage to our parents in today’s era, who continue to persevere amidst the changing tides of time, reminiscing about their once sparkling past.

Stolen 2014

stolen은 전통의 원형이 많이 남아있는 호주 원주민 마을의 리서치 프로젝트의 일환으로, 호주 애보리진의 역사를 바탕으로 원주민의 사회적인 위치에 남아있는 감정들을 영국혈통의 개와 원주민의 부베랑 놀이로 민감한 관계의 이야기를 서사적인 영상으로 풀어낸 작업이다.

​

Stolen is a research project set in an Australian Indigenous village where many aspects of tradition are still preserved. Based on the history of Australian Aborigines, this work explores the emotions related to the social position of Indigenous people, unraveling a sensitive narrative through the relationship between a British-bred dog and an Indigenous boomerang game. The project is presented as a storytelling video that reflects these intricate, culturally significant connections.
