<서서울피디아>는 서서울지역에 축적된 장소의 기억을 증강현실기법(AR)으로 소환하는 프로젝트이다. 이 작업은 기록과 재현을 넘어 관객의 선택과 반응 속에서 생성되는 기억의 장을 구축한다.

 

서서울지역은 급속한 도시화로 물리적 확장을 이루었으나 그 과정에서 공동체의 정서적 밀도와 관계성은 희미해졌다. <서서울피디아>는 이 도시의 빈 여백에 잔존하는 기억을 산, 물, 나무와 같은 자연물에 빗대어 매개한다. 미술관 유휴공간에 배치한 여러 지점을 서울 서쪽 하늘의 새로운 별로 상정하고, 관객은 가이드를 따라 이동하며 서로 다른 시간과 서사가 겹친 풍경을 마주하게 된다. 증강현실(AR)은 현실과 가상 사이에서 상호작용하며, 드러나지 않던 연결과 관계를 가시화하는 감각적 인터페이스로 작동한다.

 

관객 참여형 증강현실(AR) 작품인 <서서울피디아>는 우리를 품어주던 마을의 뒷산, 환경 변화로 생태 위기를 겪은 안양천, 마을의 안녕을 지켜온 나무, 가상 인물 B의

서울 상경 이야기 그리고 이 지역의 기억이 담긴 오색구슬로 쌓여가는 나만의 서서울피디아로 구성된다. 또한 미술관의 스튜디오 1 공간은 서서울의 주요 장소에서 실행한 증강현실(AR)작업 <서서울피디아>의 기록물인 <서서울피디아-AR 무빙 이미지>와 가상 인물 B의 이야기를 새롭게 편집한 영상물인 <사적인 기억의 조각>을 선보인다. <서서울피디아-AR 무빙 이미지>는 지역의 현재 모습과 중첩된 가상의 이미지를 실제 전시 공간으로 이동시켜, 기억과 재현 간의 한계와 가능성을 탐색한다. <“서서울피디아”가 카메라에 접근하려고 합니다>는 AR 실행 시 카메라 접근이 허용되지 않을 때 가상 공간에 남겨진 이미지를 통해 현실로 이행하지 못한 상태의 시간성을 드러낸다.

 

<서서울피디아>는 공공 미술관과 지역 사회, 기술과 신체, 인간과 비인간 존재가 심리적, 상상적 네트워크로 연결되는 새로운 공동체 모델을 제안한다. 관객의 이동과 선택은 곧 기억의 편집 행위가 되며 이는 정동적 공명 속에서 공동체적 의미를 재구성한다. 별을 바라보며 우주의 섭리 속에서 자신의 위치를 성찰해왔던 오래된 인류의 감각처럼 이 프로젝트는 서울 서쪽 하늘에 빛나는 새로운 별을 따라가며 도시와 개인의 기억과 경험, 그리고 마음이 교차하는 또 하나의 별자리를 펼쳐 보인다.

Seoseoulpedia

<Seoseoulpedia> is a project that summons memories embedded within the places of Western Seoul through Augmented Reality (AR).
Moving beyond documentation and representation, the work constructs a field of memory generated through the audience’s choices, movements, and interactions.

 

Although the western districts of Seoul rapidly expanded through urbanization, the emotional density and relational bonds of local communities gradually faded in the process. <Seoseoulpedia> mediates the traces of memory that remain within the city’s empty spaces through natural elements such as mountains, water, and trees. Various unused spaces within the museum are imagined as new stars emerging in the western sky of Seoul, and audiences move through these points guided by AR, encountering layered landscapes where different times and narratives overlap.Here, Augmented Reality functions not simply as a visual technology, but as a sensory interface that reveals hidden relationships and invisible connections between the real and the virtual.

 

The participatory AR work <Seoseoulpedia> consists of : the village back mountains that once embraced local residents, Anyangcheon Stream that underwent ecological crisis through environmental change, old guardian trees that protected village communities, the story of a fictional character B who moved to Seoul, and My Seoseoulpedia, which accumulates colorful beads containing memories of the region. Studio 1 of the Seo-Seoul museum of Art additionally presents <Seoseoulpedia–AR Moving Image>, a record of AR interventions carried out at major locations throughout Western Seoul, alongside <Fragments of Private Memory>, a newly edited video work based on the story of the fictional character B. <Seoseoulpedia – AR Moving> Image transfers virtual images layered onto actual regional sites into the physical exhibition space, exploring both the limits and possibilities between memory and representation. <“Seoseoulpedia” Would Like to Access the Camera> imagines virtual images waiting to enter reality from within digital space.

 

<Seoseoulpedia> proposes a new model of community in which public museums and local society, technology and the body, human and non-human beings are connected through psychological and imaginative networks. The audience’s movements and selections become acts of editing memory itself, reconstructing communal meaning through affective resonance. Much like ancient humanity once reflected upon their place within the order of the cosmos by gazing at the stars, this project follows new stars shining in the western sky of Seoul, unfolding another constellation where the memories, experiences, and emotions of both city and individual intersect.
